Chats with former Livingston ace helped David Martindale make move for Liverpool loanee Adam Lewis

Livingston boss David Martindale says regular chats with Ryan Hardie helped him make a move for Liverpool loanee Adam Lewis.

The 21-year-old will spend the season in West Lothian on loan from the English giants having spent time at Plymouth Argyle last term.

Hardie, who helped fire the Lions into the Premiership after arriving from Rangers during the 2017/18 campaign, played alongside Lewis at Home Park and Martindale said he had lengthy conversations with the striker prior to getting the deal done.

Speaking to the Courier, he commented: “Adam went to Amiens in Ligue 2. He was staying in Paris when covid hit and he was just sitting in his house. He went over there with his girlfriend and it was a brave move, two young people going over to France at that stage.

“He came back and went out on loan to Plymouth Argyle and Ryan plays there so I had a lot of conversations with him over the summer once Adam’s name got put in to me as an option.

“I spoke to Liverpool and a few other folk and the feedback was very positive and I’m really, really excited about what he can bring to the team.

“His quality on the ball and his range of passing is phenomenal. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do for us this season.”

Lewis has featured mostly as a left-back during his career, which has included a single Liverpool appearance, but Martindale has hinted at playing him further upfield.

He could make his Lions debut on Saturday when they travel to Brechin City in the League Cup.
