ChatGPT is back in the headlines as the AI platform has helped locate a stolen Lamborghini Huracán EVO that had been missing for nearly two years. The luxury supercar, owned by Andrew Garcia from Orange County, California, was stolen in December 2023 as part of a large-scale rental scam operation.
The luxury supercar, owned by Andrew Garcia from Orange County, California, was stolen in December 2023 as part of a large-scale rental scam operation. Thieves exploited a rental scam, using fake documents to re-register and sell high-end vehicles, including Garcia’s, on the black market.

However, this year in August, Garcia received an Instagram message from someone who claimed to have seen the car. The sender even attached photos, apparently after finding Garcia’s business card inside the vehicle. The interesting part is that instead of calling the police right away, Garcia decided to take matters into his own hands and turned to AI.
He uploaded the photos into ChatGPT, asking it not to focus on the Lamborghini itself but on the background clues like the blurry vehicles, street signs, and even vegetation visible through the windows. ChatGPT highlighted contextual hints and suggested possible regions. Garcia then paired that analysis with Google’s geolocation tools. Together, they narrowed the location down to Denver, Colorado.
Once Garcia had enough evidence, he contacted the Denver police. Officers quickly confirmed the car’s identity through its VIN and arranged for its return. Law enforcement praised Garcia’s initiative and said the case shows how consumer AI tools can complement traditional investigative methods.
While that’s all for now, ChatGPT has been in the news recently for other reasons as well. A Reddit user shared screenshots of the AI praising its Chinese rival DeepSeek, noting its free accessibility and depth compared to ChatGPT’s lighter, more cost-effective engine. The exchange sparked debate online about AI models openly acknowledging competitors, a rare move in the industry.
