ChatGPT Projects completely changed the way I organized my ideas — here's how

I’ll admit it, I used to have way too many ChatGPT chats going at once. Some for work, some for side projects and at least three just for random ideas I didn’t want to forget. Keeping track of them all was chaos. Then I tried ChatGPT Projects, and it completely transformed the way I organize my ideas — from health and homework to travel and investment.

Now, instead of jumping between unrelated chats or digging through old conversations, I keep everything for a specific topic in one place. Each project acts like its own workspace, with all my files, notes and conversations consolidated.

The best part about Projects is how focused they make me feel. When I open one, I’m stepping into a space that’s built entirely around a single goal. For example, I have one project for content planning, another for travel tips, and one more for health. Inside each, I can upload reference materials, keep running conversations going, and pick up exactly where I left off.

Before Projects, I’d constantly repeat myself, re-upload files, or try to remember what version of a document ChatGPT had last seen. Now it remembers the context for me. That small change saves me hours every week and helps me stay in flow longer.

How I got started

If you’ve never used Projects before, it’s really easy to set up. Here’s what I did:

I opened ChatGPT and navigated to the left sidebar. There’s a section called “Projects” with a “+ New Project” button.

I clicked two prompts e.g. Health and Travel, gave my projects a name, and hit create.

Inside the project, I started a new chat, and added a few notes for clarity, and links for my own reference as the conversation expanded. From that point on, ChatGPT automatically connected everything together.

Each project has its own separate environment. When I switch projects using the sidebar, ChatGPT doesn’t confuse my files or mix up the context. It feels organized in a way that regular chats never did.

Why it's changed how I work

I used to treat ChatGPT like a powerful search bar, but now it feels more like an intelligent workspace partner.

Whether it's keeping my files in one place, or having the ability to track my progress, my ideas stay structured, my references stay accessible and my workflow finally feels calm instead of cluttered.
