It's the old dinner-party question: if you could spend time with someone you really admired but had never met, who would you choose - and what would you talk about?

That's more or less the premise of the Longplayer Conversation set up by one of our favourite arts organisations, Artangel: put two people who admire each other, but who've never met, in a room together, light the blue touchpaper and retire.

In 2005 they brought together writer Doris Lessing with experimental artist and musician Laurie Anderson for what was apparently an intense and revealing conversation. And next week they're doing it again, this time with design maven Bruce Mau and architect David Adjaye. Inspired by the Longplayer project, the fantastically spooky millennial scheme to create a piece of music lasting a thousand years, they'll be discussing philosophy, time, art and inspiration.

We'll be releasing the talk as a podcast here on the site next week, but if you're near London and fancy attending in the flesh, it's happening at 7pm next Tuesday evening, February 13, at the Perrin Lecture Theatre, Institute of Cell and Molecular Science, Royal London Hospital on Whitechapel Road in E1. You can find out more and book tickets (a bargainous £7.50 each) at the Artangel website.
