The Washington Football Team was expected to field one of the defenses in all of the NFL in 2021. Through two weeks, Washington’s defense has been anything but superb.
In Week 1, Washington’s defense allowed the Chargers to convert on 14 of 19 third downs. In Week 2, New York quarterback Daniel Jones passed for 242 yards, rushed for 93 yards and did not turn the ball over.
Now, Washington will face the Buffalo Bills and quarterback Josh Allen.
Can the defense get it right in what will be its stiffest test of the young season?
Defensive end Chase Young is not too worried about the first two weeks of the season. In Young’s eyes, there wasn’t a complete defensive breakdown. Instead, it was the little things such as a blown coverage or a defensive lineman staying in one gap too long.
Despite those early struggles, Young is still confident the best is yet to come from Washington’s defense.
“It’s still high,” Young said when asked about his expectations for the defense. “I love that people hold us to a high standard because we hold ourselves to a high standard. When we start playing good defense, they gonna love us again.”

Young is right. Once Washington’s defense turns the corner — if it turns the corner — everyone will forget that slow start.
In two games, Young does not have a sack. He’s not concerned.
“The numbers gonna come,” Young said.
The Bills will be a tough matchup for Washington. However, a strong performance against Buffalo could go a long way in fixing some of the defensive issues that have plagued the team early this season.
