Chase Young, Jeffrey Okudah named semifinalists for the Bednarik

We’ve already seen Chase Young collect more hardware than the local home improvement store, but he was announced as a semifinalist to another prestigious award Tuesday. Just keep ’em coming.

He, along with Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah have been announced as one of twenty college football players that have made the cut as semifinalists for the Bednarik Award. The Bednarik, established in 1995 is handed out to the best defender in college football annually.

You know the story of Young. The defensive end’s name has blown up all over the college football universe after a dominating performance against Wisconsin last week. For Okudah though, his work is a little less noticeable.

That’s because hardly any passes get completed against him. Turn on the film though and you’ll see a guy that can cover like a glove, has elite closing speed, and flies through the secondary to run to plays all over the field.

The list will be culled down to three or so finalists on November 25, with the winner being announced in mid-December.
