If your favorite NFL team ends up picking high in the 2020 draft, and they don’t need a quarterback, they could end up stealing the best player in the country.
That’s what will happen if Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young goes anywhere but the No. 1 overall pick next April.
The latest in a long line of talented edge defenders to come out of Columbus, Young might be the best the Buckeyes have ever churned out, with his rare combination of size, athleticism and technique.
After finishing 2018 with a dominant stretch of games, Young picked up right where he left off this season, and he hasn’t let up for a moment. In Saturday’s blowout win over Wisconsin, Young took things to another level, racking up four sacks and forcing a pair of fumbles against one of the better offensive lines in all of college football.
Young already has more career sacks than former Buckeye Joey Bosa, who was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He’s more explosive and athletic than former teammate Nick Bosa, who is terrorizing NFL quarterbacks after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2018 draft.
Even if a QB-needy team ends up with next year’s top pick, Young is so good that they’ll have to think long and hard about passing up him, no matter how important the quarterback position is in today’s NFL.
Wherever Young lands at the next level, he should make an immediate impact, and could end up being one of the best sack-masters the game has ever seen.
