Chase viewers in disbelief as contestant says he's never heard of Lewis Capaldi or Cleopatra

Viewers watching The Chase couldn't believe what they were hearing as a contestant admitted to not knowing who Cleopatra or Lewis Capaldi is.

During tonight's installment of the popular gameshow, hopeful Geoff performed well against Paul The Sinner Sinha, despite not knowing the answer to two 'obvious' questions.

After earning an impressive £8,000 in his cash-builder round, the freelance programme manager went up against Paul in a bid to bring back some money to his fellow team mates.

But things quickly went downhill when he couldn't correctly answer two questions about a famous Egyptian pharaoh and a well-known British artist - and fans tuning in from home were in no rush to let that slide.

When asked by host Bradley Walsh 'who was the longest reigning pharaoh in Egypt', Geoff chose Ramses II out of the two other options Pepi II and Cleopatra VII.

After the correct answer was revealed to be Pepi II, Geoff told Bradley: "I've never heard of the other two."

Viewers quickly took to social media to react, with many in disbelief.

One viewer tweeted: "Did he say he's never heard of Cleopatra? #thechase"

Another added: "Never heard of Cleopatra? You really mean that? #TheChase"

"Guy on #TheChase has never heard of Cleopatra" A third wrote.

A fourth put: "For someone who’s never heard of Cleopatra, he’s doing well so far! #TheChase"

More fans flocked online when Geoff didn't know who had a 2019 UK Number One album entitled 'Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent'.

Out of the three options, Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker and George Ezra, Geoff said he went "straight down the middle" and chose option B, Tom Walker.

The Buckinghamshire resident pulled a confused face when the correct answer was revealed to be A, Lewis Capaldi, clearly not knowing who he is.

Reacting to Geoff's wrong answer, one viewer said: "#TheChase "I don't even know who Lewis Capaldi is""

"#TheChase if I got a Lewis Capaldi question correct I'd see it as a failure" A second quipped.

A third put: "Lewis Capaldi’s wacky album name question klaxon!!!!! #TheChase"
