Chase for Nottingham Forest striker heats up as Tottenham decision impacts Ipswich interest

Nottingham Forest’s young striker Will Swan looks set to miss out on a deadline day loan move to Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys had been heavily linked with the Reds’ young forward as they seek striking reinforcements.

But Tottenham look to have stopped that from happening after they decided to recall Troy Parrott from Millwall and send him to Portman Road.

Forest boss Chris Hughton said at the weekend that the Reds were considering allowing Swan out on loan provided they had enough cover in attack.

And after landing Glenn Murray from Brighton on a permanent deal until the end of the season, that looked like it would pave the way for Swan to get some much-needed first-team minutes under his belt.

Port Vale have now been linked with a move for the striker.

Hughton said after Saturday's game against Barnsley: “He’s one we’re very much thinking about and the opportunity to go out and get some games.

“We see Miguel Angel Guerrero as a number 10, therefore we currently have two number nines in (Lyle) Taylor and (Lewis) Grabban.

“At this moment, even though Swanny hasn’t been involved so much, we’re wary of anything happening to them two. So unless we do something, he’ll stay.

“We have been thinking about it and we will make decisions today or tomorrow.”

The news comes as Forest were linked with more arrivals on deadline day after sealing a move for Murray early on Monday morning.

AFC Wimbledon forward Joe Pigott had been touted as a possible target, while QPR had reportedly knocked back the Reds’ approach for goalkeeper Joe Lumley.

There have been rumours of outgoings too with Samba Sow linked with an exit, although an injury he picked up against Barnsley means that now looks unlikely.

Harry Arter has also been linked with Bristol City.
