Chase Elliott rescues Ryan Blaney, who ironically ran out of gas on the side of the road

What do you do when you run out of gas? Call a friend for some help, and whether you’re a regular person or a professional race car driver, that’s definitely a good place to start.

But it’s obviously ironic and a lot funnier when a race car driver runs out of gas — and it’s not as rare as you may think. Ryan Blaney is the latest pro who was the victim of an empty tank, and he and his 1985 Ford Bronco were stranded recently.

So naturally, he called Chase Elliott. NASCAR’s reigning most popular driver isn’t the most active on social media, but lucky for racing fans, he made sure to document Blaney’s gaffe on his Instagram story this week.

Possibly the best part of this little story, however, is this person tried to explain how cars work to someone who grew up around them and, you know, drives them for a living. An excellent point from Blaney right here:

Maybe this is a good sign for Blaney, and he won’t have fuel issues during Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, NASCAR’s longest race.
