JALANDHAR: As Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) leader Gurnam Singh Charuni held meetings in Doaba region of Punjab on Tuesday and Wednesday, dissenting leaders of Bahujan Samaj Party tried cozying up to the farm leader by organising the meetings.

In the beginning of Charuni launching of Mission Punjab’, idea floated by him for 2022 assembly election, Dalits also turned up for his meetings.

On Wednesday, Charuni held a meeting with NRIs at Ambedkar Bhawan on Nakodar Road. BSP president Rashpal Singh Raju, who has been expelled from the party, and BSP former backward class (BC) state in-charge Sukhbir Singh Shalimar also attended the meetings. Raju also organised a meeting for Charuni at Garhshankar, where farmers as well as Dalit activists turned up.

He said he was consulting people on how to plan ahead. “Response from the people on ground is good, but we need to have wider consultations and feedback,” he said here on Wednesday. He later also went to the residence of SAD (Sanukt) spokesperson Gurcharan Singh Channi.

On Tuesday, he had held meetings at Garhshankar, Banga and Urapar. At every meeting, slogans of kisan mazdoor ekta were raised.
