
Packages of rice seedlings blankets the inside of an agriculture facility in Kyoto in a vivid yellow-green as their production enters its peak just ahead of rice planting season. At the JA facility in Oharano district in Nishikyo Ward, the seedlings of eight varieties of rice are growing in 30-centimeter by 60-centimeter plastic containers. The facility plans to produce about 46,000 packages by mid-June. Once the seedlings grow to a height of about 13 to 14 centimeters, they will be shipped to farmers to plant in their paddies.
