Chart shows how dreadful Jets have been on third down and in red zone

It’s no secret the New York Jets have been quite awful when facing a third down or when they reach the red zone. We may not have known just how bad it was. But thanks to a chart from Football Perspective, we can now see how bad the Jets are in those categories and far away they are from the rest of the league.

The Jets have just a 22% success rate on third down and are just 24% in the red zone. The gap between the Jets and the rest of the league is quite noticeable.

The Tennessee Titans and New York Giants are both over 30% in each category and every other team is at least 40% from the red zone. This chart basically sums up the Jets’ 2023 season in a nutshell. The offense can’t get the job done when it is needed the most. The latest example was Monday’s embarrassing 27-6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers to drop the Jets to 4-4.

The Jets were 3/17 on third down and 0/2 in the red zone, including their third-quarter trip that resulted in two straight sacks of Zach Wilson that forced the Jets to settle for a field goal to make the score 17-6, a deficit that became too much to overcome with how the offense performed Monday.
