Toyota is still the most common make of car in Australia, and the decline of Holden means the Japanese carmaker now has 1 million more cars on the road than its closest rival.
A decade ago, the gap between them was barely 100,000 vehicles.
The ABS Motor Vehicle Census shows there are now almost 600,000 fewer Holdens and Fords on Australian roads compared to 2013, after drops of 12 per cent and 22 per cent.
This declining demand, particularly for large Holden and Ford sedans, contributed to the closure of the car-making sector in Australia.
The list of top 30 makes now includes Isuzu for the first time, at the expense of Daewoo, which has fallen off the list 14 years after it was killed off in Australia.
