Over the past 30 years Australia has seen a steady decline in the marriage rate in general, most noticeably among teenagers.
The rate per 1,000 teenaged women has dropped from almost 19 in the mid-1980s, to two in 2016.
Statistics show that women have outnumbered men at university since the late '80s and that women now make up more than half of the teenage working population.
While young men have also seen a decreased marriage rate in the same period, teenage brides still outnumber teenage grooms four to one.
