Chart of the day: Star Trek fans really dislike one particular episode. Here's why

In 29 seasons of Star Trek, only one episode has an average IMDb review lower than five out of 10 — episode 22 of season two of The Next Generation, "Shades of Gray".

It was a clip show, the term given to an episode of a TV show that is made up of mostly recycled footage from previous episodes.

Fans typically hate clip shows, a feeling emphasised in this case because episode 22 was also a season finale.

The blame is said to fall somewhere between the 1988 Writers Guild of America strike and earlier episodes depleting the seasonal budget.
