Charlton to offer Anfernee Dijksteel a new contract amid interest from Middlesbrough

Charlton plan to offer Anfernee Dijksteel a new contract to secure his future amid interest from Middlesbrough.

Lee Bowyer’s former Leeds team-team Jonathan Woodgate wants to prise the Dutch right-back away from his old friend this summer.

Dijksteel still has one year left on his current deal but Charlton are planning to tie him down to new terms to fend off any interest.

Bowyer has already lost a chunk of his squad from last season and Dijksteel played a key role to help Charlton secure promotion to the Championship.

Dijksteel joining Charlton from the Nike Academy in 2016 and made his first-team breakthrough in 2017-18 with 19 senior appearances. In total, he has played 58 times for Charlton.

Having agreed a contract extension to remain as Charlton manager this week, Bowyer and head of recruitment Steve Gallen are pressing ahead with their transfer plans.

The Charlton squad return for the start of pre-season training next week and Gallen has told the club’s official website said: “We feel that we can get some good players into this football club.

"There is obviously a few more [signings] to do. I do not know when, I do not want to put a deadline or a date on it, but we are working hard on it behind the scenes.”
