Charlton takeover is ‘all ifs and buts’, says manager Lee Bowyer

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer admits the proposed takeover of the club is still “all ifs and buts” as the new owners wait to be approved by the EFL.

East Street Investments (ESI) announced a £50million-plus deal to buy Charlton from Roland Duchatelet on November 29.

The EFL are still performing background checks on ESI, who are led by Abu Dhabi-based majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer and chairman Matt Southall, and it is unclear whether there will be a resolution before the January transfer window opens. “It [takeover talk] has been going on for as long as I have been in charge!” said Bowyer (left).

“It’s closer this time, but my job is to get results and the other stuff will take care of itself. It is all ifs and buts.

“Hopefully, everyone gets what they want and we can move forward and plan.”

Charlton take on QPR at Loftus Road on Saturday and are on a terrible run, having gone 10 matches without a win in the Championship.

They have dropped from second to 17th in the table and are just six points above the relegation places.

Rangers, meanwhile, are four points outside the play-off spots under manager Mark Warburton.
