Charlton boss Nigel Adkins tests positive for Covid

Charlton manager Nigel Adkins has tested positive for Covid and missed their 2-1 pre-season friendly with Dartford on Saturday.

Adkins, who has been double vaccinated, tested positive ahead of the game, the Addicks’ third of pre-season.

He has duly missed the match, with assistant manager Johnnie Jackson taking charge in his absence.

A statement from Charlton on Saturday lunchtime said; “Following Government and EFL COVID-19 guidelines and having performed the necessary risk assessments, several members of staff and players will not be in attendance at Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Dartford.

“The club can confirm that Manager, Nigel Adkins, although being double vaccinated, has recently tested positive for coronavirus and is isolating at home and that Assistant Manager, Johnnie Jackson, will be in charge of the side's game at Princes Park.”

Charlton have not stated when Adkins is due to return to work, with the club’s next friendly due to be next weekend against Championship side Reading.
