Charlton boost as wealthy businessman Thomas Sandgaard plots purchase of crisis club

A wealthy Danish businessman has declared his interest in buying Charlton.

Thomas Sandgaard, who is said to be worth close to £400million, is keen to do a deal for Charlton that includes purchasing The Valley and the club’s training ground from Roland Duchatelet.

Prospective Charlton owner Paul Elliott had his takeover bid rejected by the EFL last week.

Sandgaard told the South London Press: “I think Duchatelet and his advisors need to know I am not just another random person with a long shot who tries to see if I can do something. I am serious and I will make this happen. The goal is to make this happen before the club enters a phase of potential administration.

“We do not want penalties and other things against us. We need to start building from day one. Let’s get it sorted out now before the season starts. My ownership would provide the stability that the club needs.”

Sandgaard, 62, is the founder of Zynex Inc, medical device manufacturering company. He is based in Colorado in America.

Former Charlton chief executive Peter Varney and former Ritz owner Andrew Barclay also remain interested in buying Charlton.
