Charlton Athletic suffer significant blow ahead of Nottingham Forest visit

Charlton Athletic have suffered a significant injury blow ahead of Wednesday night’s visit of Nottingham Forest to The Valley.

Defender Chris Solly, who made his 300th appearance for the Addicks in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Barnsley at Oakwell came off in the first half following a clash of heads with Ben Williams.

Owing to head injury protocol, the 28-year-old must now spend two weeks away from the pitch to aid his recovery, with boss Lee Bowyer admitting the right-back wasn’t in a good way when he came off.

“I think he was out cold before he hit the floor,” Bowyer told South London Press.

“He wasn’t making much sense.

“He was trying to walk off and say ‘I’ll be OK Bow, I’ll be OK.’ I’m looking at him and thinking you don’t even know where I am!

“We had to take him off.

“I think it’s a two-week thing.

"I remember what George (Lapslie) was going through last year. Sols will be out now for a couple of weeks.”

Charlton salvaged a point a minute from time to retain their unbeaten record on their return to the Championship, courtesy of Lyle Taylor’s 89th minute penalty.

Forest meanwhile will head to South London looking to record their first win in Greenwich since February 2013, and will so in good heart after thumping Birmingham City 3-0 at the City Ground.
