Charlton Athletic row takes bizarre turn as Tahnoon Nimer makes fresh Matt Southall claims

Charlton Athletic majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer has further muddied the waters regarding the Sky Bet Championship club's ownership feud by posting on Instagram a document that was sent by the club on behalf of chairman Matt Southall to former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O'Hara regarding a potential defamation action.

Nimer, who had earlier claimed that he had been temporarily suspended from using the social media service, posted the email apparently sent yesterday from the club to O'Hara on his personal page, which has been set on private but

The email relates to a tweet sent by O'Hara earlier this week that has since been deleted.

Earlier this week, Nimer accused Charlton of wasting cash on "expensive flats and cars" after a row erupted between the Arab investor who owns 65 per cent of the club and Southall, a former agent who was unveiled as executive chairman in January.

Both sides have made a number of serious allegations against the other, with Southall alleging that Nimer has not invested “a single penny of the promised funds” and has not passed the EFL's directors' test.

As a result the struggling club have been hit by a transfer embargo.

Southall had also released a statement, via the club, saying that Nimer resigned his position as director. That claim was swiftly denied by the Abu Dhabi-based businessman.

In reply, Nimer said: "We have retained distinct legal counsel from that of the club’s and will shortly take the necessary measures to remove the persons responsible from the club and appoint a new chairman to lead the club."

Charlton are set to face relegation rivals Hull City on March 14 and are on a run of three straight defeats.

Lee Bowyer's side will go into the game sat in 22nd position in the Championship, two points behind the Tigers in 21st place, three points from safety.
