Charlton Athletic not interested in defender linked with Bristol City, Derby County and Nottingham Forest

It may be February but the rumour mill is in full swing.

Earlier this week, Bristol City were one of a host of clubs to be linked with Crewe Alexandra right-back Perry Ng.

The Robins are keen to add to their right-backs in the summer, with Pedro Pereira's loan from Benfica expected to come to an end.

Yet, if City are interested in Ng, they reportedly face competition from a number of other Championship clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Derby County.

Birmingham City have also been linked with the 23-year-old, who has progressed through the youth ranks at Gresty Road.

Yet it may be worth taking the rumours with a pinch of salt, after it emerged that Charlton Athletic have no interest in the player.

South London Press' Rich Cawley denied the links on Twitter today, stating that the rumours had not got any substance.

With all of the clubs linked coming from the same report, it may well mean that any interest from Championship clubs has been overstated.

Yet Ng's record probably suggests that some clubs are at least keeping tabs on his progress in League Two.

The right-back has seven assists to his name this season, which shows a player willing to get forward and attack with a good end product, whilst no player has made more passes into the final third than his 443, at an average of 12.95 per 90 minutes.

Ng also leads the entirety of League Two when it comes to progressive passes (forward passes that are 30m long when the pass starts in the team's own half or at least 10m in length in the opponent's half) - with 528.

With the Robins having alternated between a back three with wing-backs and a back four this season, that sort of attacking instinct in a full-back would no doubt be the sort of thing that grabs attention.
