Charlton Athletic loanee issues verdict on Crystal Palace stars and Patrick Vieira's methods

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is optimistic about his future at Crystal Palace despite the depth of attacking talent currently at the club.

The 20-year-old winger is currently on a season-long loan with Charlton Athletic and has impressed so far with the League One side. Rak-Sakyi has played 14 times for the Addicks in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering three assists.

On Saturday, the Palace youngster started his 12th league game in a row and scored the winner in a 1-0 win against Shrewsbury Town. Before his loan move to The Valley, Rak-Sakyi racked up an incredible 20 goals in 37 appearances for Palace’s U21 squad, which earned him two appearances in the Premier League against Chelsea and Manchester United last season.

When he returns to Selhurst Park at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, the winger will be competing for a regular spot in the first-team against players he considers role models. But if Rak-Sakyi keeps his head down at Charlton and continues his development, the 20-year-old knows there is a clear pathway to the senior setup.

In an interview with the South London Press, Rak-Sakyi said: “They’ve got a lot of great attacking players. Wilf [Zaha], Jordan [Ayew], [Eberechi] Eze and [Michael] Olise. Those are players in my position that I really look up to. Hopefully, if I just take their advice and keep working hard, I could be there one day.

“Patrick is a great manager. We always train with the first-team. He gets the young lads to train with the first-team so you know there’s an opportunity there. If you keep working hard and performing, you know the chances will come.”
