Charlton Athletic have bid accepted for Peterborough United forward linked with Bristol City

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed the club has accepted a bid from Charlton Athletic for Marcus Maddison.

The attacking midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Bristol City during the January transfer window, revealed on Twitter that the Addicks have been given permission to speak to the player.

He has scored nine goals and grabbed six assists in what has been an impressive League One campaign for the Posh, and now looks set to leave in January with his contract up at the end of the season.

MacAnthony said: "As of this morning @theposhofficial has accepted a bid from @CAFCofficial who have permission to talk terms with the player.

"Two other Championship clubs have bid for the player multiple times and do not currently have permission to speak to the player.

"Multiple news outlets have contacted me yesterday and today re knowing the details hence with all the speculation over the weekend I felt it right our fans know current situation. There will be no more comments from me/club after today re this. Thanks."

Maddison has made over 200 appearances for Peterborough since joining in 2014, scoring more than 50 league goals, and will now discuss peronsal terms with Lee Bowyer's side.

Charlton were one of a number of clubs interested in the forward, with Bristol City also being linked (although loosely). Teamtalk reported in December that the Robins were considering a move for Maddison if they sold captain Josh Brownhill.

Brownhill has been the subject of speculation linking him with a move to Premier League side Burnley, and reports suggested a move would not be made for Maddison unless Brownhill left Ashton Gate.
