Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer speaks out about his future amid Queens Park Rangers link

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has dismissed links with the vacancy at Queens Park Rangers as purely "speculation".

The Charlton boss has been linked with the vacancy in west London, following the sacking of former England boss Steve McClaren earlier this week, with Bowyer considered among the favourites to be the next manager at Loftus Road.

But speaking ahead of Charlton's trip to face Plymouth Argyle in League One this weekend, the former Leeds United midfielder says he is focused on the job in hand at The Valley, with the Addicks currently on course for a place in the end-of-season play-offs as they push for promotion back to the Championship.

“It’s obviously all speculation. I’ve not spoken to anyone at QPR , so I’m not sure where that’s come from," said Bowyer.

The reasons why Charlton manager Lee Bowyer could be the perfect candidate to join QPR

"It’s all part of football. When you’re doing well, you get linked to jobs and that’s a credit to everyone at the football club."

Bowyer is out of contract this summer at Charlton, but he has recently been discussing a new deal with the club, and he provided an update on those talks ahead of the weekend.

“I received an email last night, but if I’m honest I don’t really understand it," he said.

"Richard Murray is in today so I’ll have to go through it with him. It’s a bit different to any contract I’ve seen before so we’ll see if he can make sense of it."

Several other managers have also been linked with the vacancy at QPR, including Tim Sherwood, Kenny Jackett, Mark Warburton and Gareth Ainsworth.
