Charlton Athletic boss expecting bids for reported Bristol City and Nottingham Forest target Lyle Taylor

Lee Bowyer has admitted that he is expecting bids to come in for reported Bristol City target Lyle Taylor.

Several clubs are reportedly looking closely at the Addicks forward, who has recently returned from an injury lay off, and the Charlton boss has said it could be difficult to keep hold of him should a bigger club come calling.

Teamtalk reports that Bristol City, Burnley, Sheffield United, Norwich, Brentford and Nottingham Forest are the clubs considering a move for Taylor.

Charlton are reportedly desperate to tie down Taylor to a new deal, with his current contract ending in the summer, however could struggle to keep hold of him if a big money offer comes in in January.

Bowyer told News Shopper: “The question is if we can keep him, not if clubs will come in for him.

“Clubs all know what he can do before the start of this season.

“He’s showed he can score goals in this division and that’s what teams want.

“They tried to take him before he even proved it.

“Do I think clubs will come in for him? 1 million percent yes.

“It was the same for Karlan Grant last season, if a Premier League club comes in it’s even more difficult, it’s the nature of the game.”

Karlan Grant left Charlton for Huddersfield in January 2019 for an undisclosed fee.

Taylor has scored five goals in just eight Championship appearances this season, and will have a decision to make regarding his contract.

A new deal looked unlikely under former Addicks owner Roland Duchatelet, but could be feasible under new owner Matt Southall.
