Charlotte guard Nate Davis to meet with Vikings

The Vikings are one of 11 visits Charlotte guard Nate Davis has scheduled, per ESPN’s Jordan Schultz.

Davis is projected as a third-round or fourth-round pick and this would likely be a pick they don’t need to perform immediately, more of a depth piece. But if Davis could come in an become a starter, that’d be either really good or really bad for the Vikings.

Here’s what NFL.com’s Lace Zierlen wrote about Davis in his prospect profile:

Davis carries good power and outstanding foot quickness on a stout frame and has proven to be consistent and effective in a variety of blocking schemes. His footwork and body control help him square his targets into his power zone, but a lack of arm length creates some inconsistencies in sustaining blocks. He has some flaws, but there doesn’t appear to be glaring holes to overcome his areas of strength and become a starting guard early in his career.

This seems positive. The Vikings have a third-round pick (pick 81) and a fourth-round pick (pick 114). All of those seem within Davis’ range to be selected.

The Vikings have Josh Kline, Danny Isidora and Dakota Dozier as guards under contract for next season, but Brett Jones and/or Pat Elflein can also play there, and depending on what happens in the draft, we could see tackle Riley Reiff make a position change.
