Charlotte Dawson opens up about her fitness journey after being warned she was 'in danger'

Charlotte Dawson has opened up about her new exercise regime after being warned she was in 'danger' of having type two diabetes.

The 29-year-old mum-of-one was diagnosed with gestational diabetes when she was pregnant with her son Noah, a common condition that affects one in 20 pregnant women.

She believed the condition was just part of her pregnancy and returned to her usual diet including her favourite chips and gravy after giving birth in January.

But Charlotte, the daughter of the late comedian Les Dawson, was told to clean up her diet during a trip to the doctor after she felt 'a bit funny'.

She said: "I started this fitness journey with the goal of avoiding type two diabetes because I had gestational diabetes and was warned I was still in danger after Noah was born.”

She added: "My dad had it and died when I was just eight-months-old, so it really was a wakeup call to start getting fit."

Type two diabetes is a condition that causes the level of sugar in the blood to become too high and can lead to stroke, blindness, heart disease, kidney failure, limb amputation and early death.

She was left 'upset, anxious and scared' when her 70-year-old mum Tracy was also diagnosed earlier this year.

Her 1.3 million social media followers have been following her journey closely.

Last month Charlotte shared a workout video and using her weight loss catchphrase “a little less chunkeh but always funkeh."

Charlotte still enjoys the odd cocktail (James Linsell-Clark)

Charlotte, who recently surprised drinkers recently by turning her hand to bartending in a pop-up bar by new cocktail in a can brand Cutwater Spirits, said about her new diet: "Don't get me wrong, I still like the odd chippy and cocktail or two, but not every day - I'm learning to be a bit more balanced and I'm feeling so much better.”

The compliments have been pouring in for Charlotte as she shared videos and photos of herself trying on her autumn wardrobe on Instagram.

"How have you lost so much weight?" marvelled one fan.

"Absolutely LOVE the fact you shared your pregnancy journey, then after pregnancy body and how amazing and glowing your looking now!!! exclaimed another.

"Love love love the fact it wasn’t over night, you didn’t hide any of it, your looks better than ever just love that!!!realistic!!!"

The former Ex On The Beach star is known for her down-to-earth and body confident Instagram posts.

And she was hailed as an inspiration as she embraced her "postpartum jelly belly and tiger stripes" after giving birth.
