Charlotte Church plans to open private music school in her home for 20 pupils

Charlotte Church wants to turn her home into a private school where she will teach music and singing to 20 pupils.

The singer has lodged plans for the classroom after home-schooling her own children Ruby, 11, and 10-year-old Dexter.

Charlotte, 33, says she wants to “liberate” other children by opening the non-fee-paying school to students aged between nine and 12.

It would initially be housed in a temporary two-storey annex of her home before a permanent site can be found. But she faces a potential planning row as neighbours have raised fears over noise and traffic.

Charlotte said: “Since I’ve had kids, I have become much more interested in education and child development.

“Mainstream education is struggling with underfunding and overcrowding – teachers are incredibly tested.”

But the Community Council objected to the proposal as being “detrimental to the character” of the area.

Councillor Andrew Robertson said some neighbours were concerned over the potential impact of traffic and noise.

Vale of Glamorgan Council is set to make a decision on the plans later this month.
