Why Charlotte Will Win
It might have just come against Gardner-Webb, but that’s exactly how the running game should work.
Chris Reynolds threw well and ran for 72 yards and two scores, and Benny LeMay went off with 120 yards and two touchdowns for a ground game that ripped off 322 yards and four scores.
To get this done, the 49ers have to control the clock and keep the ASU offense off the field. The Mountaineers have the defensive front to hold up and get behind the line, but Charlotte has to pound away from the start.
Why Appalachian State Will Win
Everything went fine in the opening game for new head coach Eliah Drinkwitz. There weren’t enough deep plays for the passing game, and it took a half to get everything working, but the balance was fine. Now it needs to be more explosive against the questionable 49er defense.
ASU can get into the backfield, and the Charlotte offensive front isn’t strong enough to hold up for a full four quarters. It’s the other side, though, that’s going to own this with a deep group of backs.

What’s Going To Happen
Charlotte had the ball for close to 38 minutes last week, but it turned the ball over three times. Appalachian State will keep the offensive pressure on enough to make Charlotte press, and then the mistakes will come. The Mountaineers won’t dominate like last year when it rolled 45-9, but there won’t be any problems.
