Charlize Theron and Mindy Kaling take over the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet

Stars hit the red carpet last night in an array of dazzling looks for the 22nd Costume Designers Guild Awards, where guests included Charlize Theron, Constance Wu and Nathalie Emmanuel.

Between Mindy Kaling’s four outfit changes and all the sharp suits, the evening was a supremely stylish one.

Charlize Theron, who never fails to slay a red carpet, arrived in a theatrical golden gown with fluted sleeves. The dazzling pattern carried onto her padded headband and she accessorised with a black clutch.

Theron was honoured with a Spotlight Award on the night and took to the podium to give a speech.

Host Mindy Kaling opted for both quantity and quality at the CDGAs, turning to Jessica Mulroney, the Duchess of Sussex’s close friend as well as her occasional stylist, for help.

Her first outfit was a bespoke navy gown, created by Salvador Perez Costumes.

She then changed into a pink Alex Perry dress. Accompanied by her glam squad, she said in her Instagram stories that the quick changes were “very stressful” but that she “gotta give the looks to the people.”

From there, she changed into a Rasario gown with an exaggerated pink ruffle detail.

Finally, she settled on a form-fitting Alexandre Vauthier gown which she wore into the night. A member of her team revealed Kaling only had “two seconds” to change between outfits throughout the night.

Hustlers’ Constance Wu also brought the bling, wearing an asymmetrical blazer dress.

Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel wore one of the most striking looks of the night, opting for a black dress with buttterfly detailing.

It might still be winter, but Kathryn Newton was a spring dream in a colourful floral gown with a rainbow headband.

Djimon Hounsou put his best fashion foot forwards, as he opted for a sharp white suit with black satin lapels.

Unsurprisingly, Queer Eye’s fashion expert Tan France landed on the best dressed list. He took a simple black suit to the next level by pairing it with a forest green pussybow blouse.

Parks and Recreation star Adam Scott veered away from a classic black suit, choosing a burgundy and brown suit. He finished off the look with a bowtie and a big smile for the cameras.

Others to attend included Star Wars director JJ Abrams and John Lithgow.

Winners on the night included Jojo Rabbit’s costume designer Mayes C. Rubeo, who won the Period FIlm prize, Knives Out’s Jenny Eagan for contemporary film and Maleficent’s Ellen Mirojnick for Sci/Fi Fantasy Film.
