Charlie Wyke's message to Sunderland team-mates after winning fan award

Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke has paid tribute to his Black Cats team-mates after being named the Sunderland AFC Supporters’ Player of the Year.

The front man has been in excellent form this season, scoring 30 goals in all competitions to earn the award from the club's fans.

There's still the small matter of the play-offs to come for Wyke and Sunderland, of course, with the former Bradford and Carlisle man looking to add to his tally in what will, hopefully, be three more games this month.

Wyke's goals have been vital in propelling the Black Cats back up the table, but he took time to acknowledge his team-mates on collecting the award.

“I’m delighted to receive the award," Wyke said. "It’s been a good season for myself, but I couldn’t have done it without the lads.

"The Head Coach (Lee Johnson) came in and played the way I like, and I’ve loved every minute of it.”

Jim Gilling, chair of the Branch Liaison Council, said: “On behalf of our supporters, it gives us great pleasure in asking Lee Johnson to present the Supporters’ Player of the Year award to Charlie Wyke.

"It is fantastic to see a striker, who has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season, win this award.

"He has scored some great goals and he fully deserves this recognition – and let’s hope his total increases further during our play-off campaign.”
