Charlie Wyke in ‘fresh’ Celtic talks as Hoops step up bid for Sunderland striker

Charlie Wyke has held 'fresh' talks with Celtic as the Hoops step up their bid to sign the striker, according to a report.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at Sunderland and although the Black Cats were hoping to persuade him to stay, it looks likely that he will join Celtic.

He could become Ange Postecoglou's first signing at the club when the Australian finally gets the opportunity to get down to business on the training pitch.

He completed his quarantine on Friday and watched Scotland draw 0-0 with England at Wembley the same night, before arriving in Scotland this week.

And the Northern Echo say senior Celtic officials have held a further round of talks with Wyke and they could finally get the deal done at Celtic Park soon.

The former Middlesbrough youngster has a scoring record of 34 goals in 92 games for Sunderland, having joined from Bradford in 2018.

He joined a successful spell at Carlisle as well as the Bantams but now looks likely to step up a level.

Celtic face competition from clubs in the Championship and Sunderland know they are unlikely to hold onto him in League One.

There’s better news for Sunderland though, with former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady set to sign a new contract.
