Charlie Wyke hoping for more of the same service from Sunderland team-mate Chris Maguire

Charlie Wyke is hoping for more of the same from Chris Maguire after the Sunderland forward provided the assist for his goal against Blackpool.

Wyke's volley from Maguire's corner drew Sunderland level in the game, ultimately earning the out of luck Black Cats a point at the Stadium of Light.

It was just Wyke's third goal of the season, and he very nearly added another later in the game as he headed another Maguire corner off the bar.

But after an encouraging first start after a seven-week injury lay-off, Wyke is hoping more of the same service can help get both he and Sunderland firing after a difficult period.

Wyke said: "It was nice to get back on the scoresheet after a spell out.

“I could’ve had two but hit the bar with the other effort. It’s nice to be back playing again and hopefully I can help the team return to winning ways sooner rather than later.

“Chrissy’s delivery was brilliant for my goal. He put the ball into good areas and they were inviting to be attacked.

“One came off and like I say I should’ve had another but hit the bar,” he continued.

“It’s good to have quality service like that as a striker. I will keep working hard and do my best to finish more than I miss."
