Charlie Taylor has one regret ahead of returning to face his old club Leeds United

Charlie Taylor returns to Elland Road on Sunday with his Burnley side.

The full-back made over 100 appearances for Leeds United after coming through the academy.

He left in 2017 to join Burnley and has slowly made himself first choice for the Clarets.

He is expected to line up against Marcelo Bielsa's side on Sunday for the lunchtime kick-off at Elland Road in what is his first return to his old stomping ground.

But he has one big regret. That is that the game will be played to a backdrop of an empty stadium.

With fans still locked out of grounds, it is a sight that seems destined to be familiar for a good few months yet.

Normally, a festive fixture at Elland Road would be a sell-out and especially this season with the club dining at the top table of English football for the first time in 16 years.

Taylor said: "When the fixtures came out, it was the first game that I personally looked for and then to see that it was the Boxing Day fixture was great.

"It's a real shame there are no fans there from either team.

"I'm sure it would have been a great occasion and a special day but as for the game I am obviously hugely looking forward to it and I can't wait for Sunday.

"Leeds was a huge part of my career. I spent nearly 12-13 years there and I have never been back since I left.

"We drew in the cup at Turf Moor and that was a good night for us but it will be nice to go back and see some familiar faces.

"We have picked up some good points on the road in recent weeks.

"We know all about Leeds and how they play and what to expect really so we will be going there confident and hopefully we can carry on our form."

Leeds head into the game four points ahead of Sean Dyche's side.
