Charlie Savage signs new Manchester United contract

Manchester United have secured the long-term future of yet another prospect by handing Charlie Savage a new contract. Savage, the son of former United midfielder Robbie, has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2025, with the option for that to be extended by a further 12 months also included.

Savage said about his new contract on Instagram: "Great way to end an amazing season. Delighted to sign a long-term contract with this special club. Thank you to my family for their support, without them this would never have been possible. Time for a short break before going again and giving everything to keep pushing forward."

The 19-year-old has been at the club for a decade and has risen through the youth ranks all the way to the senior side. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick handed Savage his first-team debut in the Champions League group stage dead rubber against Young Boys in December, bringing him on in the closing stages.

Savage signed his first professional contract with United last summer after being a regular for the Under-18s and he has enjoyed a promotion to the Under-23s this season. The midfielder made 28 appearances across the Premier League 2, UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy, scoring twice and grabbing two assists.

Savage's new contract comes in the wake of fellow midfielder Kobbie Mainoo signing his first professional deal with the club. The highly-rated 17-year-old played a crucial role in United's triumphant FA Youth Cup campaign and was awarded for his efforts with a contract.
