Charlie Nicholas voices Celtic 'glove puppets' fear as pundit makes key Eddie Howe admission

Hopeful Charlie Nicholas is adamant Eddie Howe will be better served to swerve any "glove puppets" as part of his Celtic coaching staff.

The 43-year-old wants Stephen Purches, Simon Weatherstone and Richard Hughes to join him in Glasgow as part of his big Parkhead rebuild.

And straight-shooting Nicholas has told the amiable Englishman that current interim boss John Kennedy and and former manager Gordon Strachan shouldn't be part of the new-look set-up.

Kennedy has been with the club for over a decade in a variety of scouting and coaching positions including a key role under Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

Strachan's son Gavin is currently a first team coach but Nicholas believes the time is now to move on from familiar names who have a long-standing relationships with principal shareholder Dermot Desmond.

Speaking to the Express, he said: "It will be good to see Celtic get Eddie Howe over the line so the fans can finally get some vision and clarity.

"There has been no leadership from the club hierarchy of late.

"Hopefully, this pending appointment will be the start of better things to come.

"There was too much at stake with Eddie for it not to materialise.

"What I want to know is, where is this dynamic change we expected at the club?

"Is the appointment of Eddie the catalyst?

"He will do a very good job for Celtic, he'll give the club hope and play in the right way.

"But what's happening with the director of football role and the rest of the plan to move forward?

"If Howe's bringing in his own men then fair play to him.

"But if the likes of Gordon Strachan and John Kennedy are involved then not much will have changed - with the same old glove puppets reporting back to Dermot Desmond."
