Charlie Nicholas turns Celtic manager as he tells Neil Lennon the surprise line-up that will catch Rangers cold

Former Celtic star Charlie Nicholas believes Neil Lennon will be left with sleepless nights regarding his team selection ahead of the crunch clash with Rangers.

And the pundit reckons a midfield dilemma will have the Hoops boss tossing and turning ahead of the biggest game of the season.

Celtic still have to get by Dundee United but Nicholas believes the crunch clash at Ibrox will already be looming large in the mind of the Irishman.

The 58-year-old believes Scott Brown will start against Rangers but he believes an attacking four-man midfield would really have Steven Gerrard sweating.

Speaking to the Daily Express, he said: " Celtic need to go across the city, impose themselves and lay down a marker.

"Rangers have had the upper hand in recent Old Firm derbies - even the ones they have lost - and they have caused Celtic problems in the wide areas.

"That is where Lennon will have a headache when it comes to his starting XI.

"In midfield, I would probably pick Ryan Christie, David Turnbull and Mohamed Elyounoussi, with Callum McGregor behind them.

"But I can see Lennon turning to Scott Brown.

"He has been a big player in these fixtures and although his performances have been on the wane, the captain still has the experience and know-how of derby day.

"He also came up with a strong performance in the Scottish Cup Final.

"Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard started the last two games and Lennon needs to keep the pair partnered in attack against Rangers.

"Conor Hazard will be in goal and Lennon must do everything in his power to protect the rookie keeper.

"I would go for a back four of Kris Ajer, Nir Bitton, Christopher Jullien and Diego Laxalt."

The former Arsenal star can also see a recall for Alfredo Morelos for the powderkeg fixture despite the Colombian being on the outside looking in after his ban.

And Nicholas is expecting goals in a fixture that never fails to provide nerve-shredding drama.

He added: "Steven  Gerrard will be able to pick his strongest team, with the exception of Ryan Jack who is making slow progress in his recovery from injury.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Alfredo Morelos starts. The Colombian has played in a formation that has caused Celtic problems in the past.

"I can see this being an action-packed derby so I'm predicting a 2-2 scoreline, which would keep things ticking over in the title race."
