Charlie Nicholas sends Brendan Rodgers message to Arsenal's board after Unai Emery sacking

Former Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas has sent a message to the club’s board: “Go and get Brendan Rodgers now.”

The Gunners are currently looking for a new head coach after sacking Unai Emery on Friday morning.

Emery’s sacking comes following Arsenal's worst run of form since 1992 with the Gunners winless in seven games and eight points off the top four in the Premier League.

Freddie Ljungberg will lead Arsenal for Sunday's game away to Norwich City on Sunday, but Nicholas believes there is only man the Gunners should be turning to.

“A lot of the names who are in there, I think Nuno-Santo has been paraded as favourite I saw a couple of days ago, I thought I quite like him," the Scot told Sky Sports News.

"He’s got a style and principal and I think some of these Arsenal lads need a shake up, an old style one, but that is hard.

“People have thrown Pochettino’s hat into the ring. Allegri. But the guy I said before Unai Emery got it was Brendan Rodgers.

“He makes players better. He makes average players better technically, he makes them mentally move aware and not just because you can see that at Leicester currently, he done it at Celtic.

James Benge: It is becoming a matter of when, not if, Emery loses his job

“People said it was easy and of course it was easy but he has done it with a style. He took a few hammerings in Europe because he has a style, but can anyone not point at Leicester right now and say he hasn’t improved every player there, it is what he does.

“People talk about egos but I don’t care. He might have a big ego but he has earned the right to be the next Arsenal manager before we miss out on him again.

“We might even get to the point where Brendan Rodgers says 'why would I want to come to Arsenal right now?'

“Are Manchester United not interested in him? Are other big clubs not interested in him?

“Arsenal need to get a bit of leadership and bit of togetherness right now and if they are really serious about moving this forward and taking this on, then they must go and get Brendan Rodgers now.”
