Charlie Nicholas rips into Celtic hero Chris Sutton with barbed 'sitting here thinking' blast

Outspoken pundit Charlie Nicholas has blasted Chris Sutton and claims the Celtic icon reminds him of Donald Trump.

The former Parkhead star has revealed he enjoyed a chuckle to himself after the no-nonsense Englishman let rip at Neil Lennon 's side in the immediate aftermath of last week's beatdown at the hands of Sparta Prague.

Sutton pulled no punches with the Premiership champions and a host of their stars in the wake of the sobering Europa League defeat on home turf.

But the 58-year-old couldn't resist clamping back at the Record Sport pundit, who previously used the former Sky Sports star's TV catchphrase to wind him up in response to fears over Celtic's transfer strategy.

And Nicholas reckons Sutton is starting to see things from his point of view.

Writing in his Express column, he said: "I was sitting here thinking about Chris Sutton.

"Okay, maybe I wasn't really sitting thinking about him, I was more sitting chuckling at him.

"A few weeks ago Chris had a wee dig at me on Twitter after I criticised Celtic's transfer activity.

"Since then he seems to have come round to my way of thinking.

"At times, he has been even more critical of the Celtic team and some of its players. I listened to his rant last Thursday about Mohamed Elyounoussi and Leigh Griffiths.

"These are the same two players who have dragged Celtic out of a hole in recent weeks. They have produced.

"The more I listen to Chris the more he reminds me of Donald Trump!

"I will let the readers make up their own minds on that one."

Meanwhile, Nicholas also believes Lennon and his Celtic side still have major challenges to come despite Sunday's convincing 4-1 win over Motherwell.

The Hoops remain nine points behind Rangers with two games in hand with their bid to land Ten In A Row very much in the balance.

He added: "Neil Lennon can sleep a lot easier for the next couple of weeks.

"The Celtic boss got the win he needed at the weekend. But, in fairness, this team tends to battle back to rescue situations.

"They lost four against Sparta Prague. It could have been eight.

"Everybody was saying the Motherwell game was a must-win for the manager. I don't think it was.

"It might have been a must-win for the dressing room because it would take a lot more than a loss for there to be a managerial change.

"Yes, they beat Well, who were hopeless, but trouble is still there. It was the same after they beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup but then lost to Sparta Prague.

"Neil made some big decisions at Fir Park. Odsonne Edouard, Olivier Ntcham and Shane Duffy didn't deserve to start - and Celtic got the right result.

"Neil has got over one issue, but let's see how he does with the others he faces, including the fact he doesn't know who to trust right now.

"And Rangers are motoring along, showing they are now tougher.

"They are heaping all the pressure on to the other side of Glasgow."
