Charlie Nicholas in Peter Lawwell Celtic exit claim as he predicts 'enough is enough' verdict

Charlie Nicholas has revealed he believes Peter Lawwell will quit Celtic.

The pundit reckons Parkhead's chief executive will feel "enough is enough" with the club's 10 In A Row dream fading away.

Lawwell and the board have been the target of furious fan protests this season with Celtic out of the Europa League, Betfred Cup and 19 points behind Rangers in the Premiership.

Nicholas insists the current situation is down to poor recruitment and expects to see changes at the top.

He wrote in The Express: "I believe there will be changes at boardroom level.

"I think this could be the end for Peter Lawwell - he will think enough is enough. We would then have to see what the majority shareholder ( Dermot Desmond ) decides.

" Celtic now find themselves in the situation they are in because they have been cheap in the transfer market. I don't mean in terms of spending but in terms of their strategy and how they fit players into the team.

"Celtic made big statements with £9million for Odsonne Edouard and then £7.5million for Christopher Jullien.

"They then paid big wages for Shane Duffy and a big transfer fee for Vasilis Barkas.

"I said they came out of the last window weaker and I was ridiculed at the time, but since then the evidence has been there for all to see.

"Celtic, in fairness, were the better team against Rangers on Saturday and should have won. But it was exactly the same as in last season's Betfred Cup when Celtic won it, thanks to Fraser Forster's heroics.

"Celtic's two best players were Kristoffer Ajer and Jeremie Frimpong - two defenders.

"In fairness, Neil probably picked the team I would have started with. Celtic came out and played well. It was a show of defiance from the champions.

"They showed they are a good side and can be as good as Rangers on their day, but haven't shown the same consistency as the Ibrox men.

"Where has this team been for the last two months?

"There will be changes at boardroom level."
