Charlie Nicholas ends Odsonne Edouard Celtic rivalry as he delivers lofty transfer prediction

Charlie Nicholas has named Odsonne Edouard his Scottish Player of the Year and believes teams across Europe will be battling to secure his services.

The Celtic striker netted 22 goals in the Premiership as the Hoops secured a ninth consecutive title amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leicester, Newcastle and Arsenal have all been strongly linked with the 22-year-old but Hoops boss Neil Lennon insists he will do all he can to retain his talisman ahead of their 10 In A Row push next season.

But Nicholas is certain interest will be high in a player he previously claimed "irritated" him for not showing enough joy when celebrating goals.

Edouard issued a social media slapdown in response and the 58-year-old has now moved to praise the Paris Saint-Germain academy product for his displays during the 2019/20 season.

Writing in his Express column, he said: "Odsonne Edouard is my player of the year.

"The Celtic striker scored 22 league goals, racked up numerous assists and took his game to another level.

"Earlier in the season there wasn't much between Rangers' Alfredo Morelos and Edouard.

"But the Frenchman put in some really stylish individual performances when it really mattered, like when he came off the bench in the Betfred Cup Final and completely turned the game in Celtic's favour.

"Even though he wasn't fit enough to start, you could see the influence he had on the pitch and the problems he was giving the Rangers defence.

"Edouard also came up with some big European goals and showed real quality and a calmness on that stage.

"The 22-year-old is a player of class. He has been linked with a move to Newcastle United but he could go to most of the top clubs in England or across the continent."
