Charlie Mulgrew 'wanted' by Dundee United as former Celtic star targeted for Tannadice return

Former Scotland international Charlie Mulgrew is reportedly a "top signing target" for Dundee United this summer.

The 35-year-old free agent spent time at Tannadice during a loan spell back in 2006 and is wanted for a return to the City of Discovery.

Mulgrew is on the lookout for his next club after being released by Blackburn Rovers following five years at Ewood Park.

And the former Celtic and Aberdeen star could be set for a return to his homeland with United looking for new arrivals in the wake of Micky Mellon's departure.

The Daily Mail state Tam Courts appears set to be named as the club's next boss and he wants the versatile defender to join him at the club.

Mulgrew has spent the last two seasons away from Blackburn with spells at Wigan and Fleetwood Town where he raved about Joey Barton's managerial nous.

United face a defining season as they look to build upon their eighth-placed finish upon their Premiership return after three seasons outwith the top flight.
