There's not too many players brave enough (or should that be stupid?) to cross the Manchester divide.
In years gone by the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Denis Law and Carlos Tevez have pulled on both the shirts of Manchester United and Manchester City.
Of course, Tevez's switch was without doubt the most controversial of the lot after the Argentine striker swapped Old Trafford for the Etihad in 2009 and was duly met with a barrage of abuse from the red side of the city.
Now, another player with both clubs on his CV looks ready to make his mark - but is not expecting the level of hassle Tevez encountered.
Will Man United break into the top four this season? Let us know in the comments section
Charlie McNeil arrived at United from City in the summer of 2020. The 18-year-old forward is highly-rated and earlier this year he scored all four goals in a 4-2 win against City in an under-18s contest.
He then showed exactly where his loyalties lie by kissing the United badge. His form has continued this season where he is now enjoying himself in the UEFA Youth League.
He netted on Wednesday in a 2-1 win over Swiss side Young Boys to cap off a fine individual display.
The youngster has continued to impress United coaches this season and as well as two strikes in Europe he's also notched four times in the Premier League 2 competition, and once for the under-21s in the EFL Trophy - against senior opposition.
McNeill recently took part in a unique 'work experience' scheme devised specifically by United.
It involved young players joining EFL clubs and taking part in training sessions, travelling with the matchday squad and completing warm-ups.
The scheme, which saw McNeil spend a portion of time at League One side Sheffield Wednesday, was praised by United's Head of Academy Nick Cox.
“We know that they will return to Carrington with a renewed sense of purpose that will benefit the individual and the wider training group," he said.
“Justin Cochrane has been pivotal in establishing this initiative, it is thanks to a number of fantastic relationships that we have been able to establish a really exciting experience for the Professional Development Phase group.
“We want to thank Sheffield Wednesday for their ongoing support and look forward to seeing the numerous benefits that this programme will bring for our players both on and off the pitch.”
If McNeill's goalscoring continues in a similar manner, United interim boss Ralf Rangnick may well decide to aid his development even further by loaning him out.
Here, we look at five possible destinations for McNeill.
Sheffield Wednesday
Having already spent time at Wednesday during the aforementioned 'work experience' scheme, this would make logical sense.
Dropping into League One may also be considered a more manageable transition for McNeill.
Owls' boss Darren Moore, who also saw United's Dillon Hoogewerf arrive at Hillsborough as part of the arrangement, has been keen at all his previous clubs to forge arrangements with Premier League sides.
Wednesday currently have three players on loan from English top flight teams.
Birmingham
Tahith Chong was making quite the impression at Birmingham, having arrived on a season-long loan arrangement.
But the Dutchman was then struck by injury when he ruptured a thigh tendon in training. Such was the severity that it required surgery and Chong is expected to be laid low until February at the earliest.
There were plenty of warm words exchanged between the Blues and United before and after the injury and it looks as though they would be high up in the queue, should McNeill become available on a temporary basis.
Derby
The Rams might be staring down the barrel of relegation, thanks to a whopping 21-point deduction.
But in Wayne Rooney they possess a golden link to United. He is the club's record goalscorer and already has used his relationship to good effect.
He signed Teden Mengi on loan last season and in the summer persuaded his former Old Trafford teammate Ravel Morrison to sign.
Salford City
The League Two side are, of course, co-owned by a cohort of United legends such as Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
In the past they have signed United players on loan including Di'Shon Bernard and George Tanner.
D'Mani Mellor joined at the start of this season although he's played just once for the Ammies and having recently turned out for United's under-23s it is unclear whether the arrangement has been cut short.
Abroad
United could decide to throw McNeill in at the deep end and send him out on loan to a European club.
They currently have two players out on loan in Brazil, the US and Spain respectively but recent years have seen them send youngsters to the likes of Belgium and Germany.
It is not beyond the realms of possibility that this could be the case for McNeill.
