Phillip Schofield's poignant act of kindness to Charlie Gard's dad over new baby fears

Charlie Gard's dad Chris has opened up about the touching moment Phillip Schofield took him aside off-air after he expressed his fears over having another baby.

In August, Chris and Connie Yates welcomed their miracle baby boy Ollie, born a day after Charlie's birthday.

Charlie, who suffered from a rare genetic condition, died in 2017 and Chris had previously feared that he would never be able to love another baby the same again.

But appearing on This Morning today, Chris opened up about a sweet moment Phil comforted him after an interview about his eldest son.

Asked how they were feeling, Chris said: "We are on cloud nine.

"I spoke to you, Phil, last time about that I worried after Charlie, that I couldn't imagine myself loving a baby like him and I know you took me to one side off-air and said, 'Don't worry, you'll feel it.'

"You were bang on the money, mate, because the moment I saw him again, watching a child being born is so beautiful.

"He has lit up our lives like you wouldn't believe, he's absolutely gorgeous."

Meanwhile, Connie said that she didn't mind the sleepless nights because she didn't take them for granted.

"It was worth every second," she said.

"It's been hard because when we lost Charlie we felt like a part of us went with him," Chris explained. "And we could never imagine ourselves smiling again.

"He will never replace Charlie, Charlie will always be in our hearts, he will always be in our hearts."
