Daredevil fans have been through it. I know, I am one of them. We fell in love with Charlie Cox’s take on Matt Murdock with the Netflix series and when it was announced that the Defenders universe was dead one show at a time, we all suffered.
Since, we’ve been gifted with a new era of the Netflix Defenders. New in that they’re slowly coming back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not new in that there are new actors. On the contrary, so far, no one has been “recast” and every member of the Netflix era has returned to reprise their roles. It was hit or miss there for a little while but luckily, it worked out for us Defenders fans.
And now, Charlie Cox has a new ask for fans of Daredevil. He wants Matt to get his own movie and he wants us to write letters. During a recent chat at SAG-AFTRA about the series, Cox shared that while he loves that the show is a long-form series and one where he gets to tell a more nuanced story with Matt Murdock, he also wants to see him on the big screen.
“The only thing I’ll say is I’m just such a happy camper. I’m so thrilled to be here. I love that I get to tell the story in long-form. Also, because I’m part of the show, like you guys just had the experience, every season, we get to see the first two episodes on the big screen. So I get that experience. It is a shame because, particularly with the pilot, it’s such a cinematic episode,” Cox said. “It feels like it deserves to be seen on the big screen. But, I don’t know. Just write letters, everyone just write letters.”
Second time is the charm?

We have, technically, seen a Daredevil movie. I say technically because the Ben Affleck led Daredevil is not exactly the ideal movie for Matt Murdock. It is messy, weirdly punk rock, and just not the kind of story that we have now come to know and love from Cox’s take on the role. So while we do have a Daredevil movie at home, it would be nice to see what Cox and company could do with the character.
Even if he’s just part of a team-up film or part of a New York story within the larger Marvel universe, it would be nice to see Matt get to his time with his fellow heroes. Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is bringing Jessica Jones into the fold of things so having Krysten Ritter back is exciting but I want to be selfish with Matt Murdock. I want him to have more than just his series.
We’ve seen him make his big screen debut with Spider-Man: No Way Home but that little introduction to movie Matt Murdock isn’t enough for me. So until we see more of him, I will be picking up my pen and paper to make Charlie Cox proud.
