Charlie Bird to speak about heartbreaking illness on Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy as RTE reveals full line-up

RTE broadcaster Charlie Bird is to make his first TV appearance since his heartbreaking diagnosis on the Late Late Show on Friday.

Charlie will join Ryan Tubridy to speak about having Motor Neurone Disease and how he has chosen to face death head-on.

The former RTE news correspondent will be joined in the studio with his wife Claire as well as some of his friends and former colleagues.

The 72-year-old revealed his terminal illness in October after noticing issues with his speech.

In a tragic life update, he said he cries “every single day”.

“On the dark days, and there are dark days, I cry and I wish I didn’t.

“I feel embarrassed with people sitting opposite me but I can’t help it.

"At the moment I’m not dealing with it very well. I’m struggling, I know it. I will soon be dead,” he told the RTE Guide.

Also on the show, with the latest series of Dancing With The Stars due to begin in January, the first four contestants will be revealed.

And two days before his 60th birthday, Daniel O’Donnell will celebrate his 40-year career with a host of musical guests including Paddy Cole, Margo O’Donnell, Cliona Hagan, Susan McCann, Louise Morrissey, David James, Marc Roberts, and Jimmy and Claudia Buckley, as well as friends of Daniel's from other walks of life such as Packie Bonner and Shona McGarty.
