Charlie Bird's lovely response to tweet ahead of RTE Late Late Show appearance

Charlie Bird has thanked those supporting him in these "dark days" as he comes to terms with his Motor Neurone Disease.

The former presenter will appear on the RTE Late Late Show tonight where he and his family will tell Ryan Tubridy about the diagnosis.

Since revealing his diagnosis in recent weeks, the broadcasting legend said he was moved by the support.

Replying to a lovely message on Twitter, Bird said: "Thank you Niamh for your lovely message and to everyone else for your kind thoughts as well. They help me get through these dark days. And my love to everyone else who is facing a medical uphill battle. Their are so many others who must be in our thoughts as well. Take care."

In a tragic life update earlier this week, he said he cries “every single day”.

“On the dark days, and there are dark days, I cry and I wish I didn’t.

“I feel embarrassed with people sitting opposite me but I can’t help it.

"At the moment I’m not dealing with it very well. I’m struggling, I know it. I will soon be dead,” he told the RTE Guide.

The Late Late Show will be back tonight with the latest series of Dancing With The Stars due to begin in January, the first four contestants will be revealed.

And two days before his 60th birthday, Daniel O’Donnell will celebrate his 40-year career with a host of musical guests including Paddy Cole, Margo O’Donnell, Cliona Hagan, Susan McCann, Louise Morrissey, David James, Marc Roberts, and Jimmy and Claudia Buckley, as well as friends of Daniel's from other walks of life such as Packie Bonner and Shona McGarty.
