Charlie Adam wants Rangers return and feels he could do a job for Steven Gerrard

Charlie Adam says he would like a return to Rangers, but admits such a move is unlikely.

The midfielder made 88 appearances for Rangers, scoring 18 goals before joining Blackpool.

Adam went on to play alongside Steven Gerrard at Liverpool, scoring twice in 37 games for the Anfield club.

Adam, who left Liverpool for Stoke City, is a free agent after being released by Reading.

Speaking on Go Radio, the 34-year-old said: "I’ve got a few options I’m looking at at the moment at home and abroad.

"I’m just looking to look at the decision with the family in the next couple of weeks and decide where we want to go and what we want to do.

"It (coming back to Scotland) is (an option) but I’ve had no contact with any clubs in Scotland.

"Nobody’s been in contact with my agent or myself, we’ll wait and see what else comes along."

Asked if he had discussed a second spell at Ibrox, Adam said: "In this window absolutely not. Previously yes, but not now. I think that has gone.

"Everybody wants to play for a big club and everybody wants to contribute.

"Is it disappointing when the club are looking at positions where they want to improve? Do I feel that I could still contribute to Rangers? Absolutely.

"But the manager and the director of football want to go in a different way.

"They’ve got a big job on their hands this season and we’ll see what happens.

"Scottish football is where it started for me, it’s something I keep an eye on and I’d never rule anything out."
